If you had told me back in junior high that I would one day be wearing (no, willingly buying) the jeans that we so enjoyed making fun of, I would have been amused and quite possibly offended. We never understood how people could have possibly worn these things back in the ancient 1980's. Plus, they are the infamous "mom jeans."
But I really like them now. Can't help it.
Also, if you haven't seen the "mom jeans" SNL skit, you should.

I can't believe you are wearing those jeans. Silly girl. You do make them a little stylish with the shirt and heels which are cute, but I'm still not sure about the jeans. and yes, that SNL skit is hilarious.

I've done, wore, etc. many things that I claimed I would never do back when I was a kid. I think we all have. Nothing to be ashamed of. I think they look great.
