the MIA

Miami was delightful. It involved a lot of eating and a lot of laying on the beach. As it should.

If you should happen to visit South Beach I recommend:
-Gelato from the Gelateria on Lincoln mall. The coffee flavor is sinfully good and the mango is perfect.
-Get yourself some Cuban food from Bella Cuba.
-Fly Boutique. Best vintage store EVERRR.
-Jazid. Fantastic little place with live music every night, and there's a good chance that there will be dancing.

Hookah out of a watermelon?!

We wanted to find a good Cuban cigar. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. We only smoked it for like 10 minutes.

Skirt-H&M, Camisole-Express, Sandals-Target.

I know that was a mass amount of pictures for one post. But it counts for a week's worth!

tag, i'm it

Tagged by the lovely brooke. Thanks for being so great, sweetie!

5 things about myself:

1. I am a word nerd. Crossword puzzles, games shows, scrabble...bring it on. I can't help it. Once I won a spelling bee. Hah, that was like 5th grade.

2. I am on a (so-far) never-ending search for the perfect hair color/style. But I think I'm getting reeally close...

3. If left to myself I would probably subsist off of PB&J, swedish fish, cereal, and fruit.

4. I'm usually not without lip gloss on my lips and gum in my mouth. I have a ridiculous collection of lip glosses. And my gum of choice: Orbit Sweet Mint.

5. I have an insatiable sweet tooth.

6 things that make me happy:

1. Going out to breakfast. There's something so quaint about it.

2. Gladiolas.

3. Candles. I keep buying them. I think a lit candle (at least one) changes the whole mood in a room. My favorite candles come from Anthropologie. Here's Capri Blue Volcano. Other favorites: Red Currant, Baltic Amber, Balinese Vanilla...

4. Sleeping in, waking up slow.

5. A really great thrift store.

6. Coffee...particularly cappuccinos from my new cappuccino maker.

10 honest things about myself:'

1. I play my music really loud in the car and often dance a little too wildly for someone who should be focusing on the road.

2. I wish I were better at painting. There's something so romantic about it and I wish it came more effortlessly for me.

3. I make lists a lot. I love it. Even if I never look back at the list again, I just love writing the stuff down.

4. I can cry pretty easily. A sad movie, a touching story, even Extreme Home Makeover. I sometimes have to fight back the tears so I don't look too sissy. Ha.

5. I want to be a personal stylist. I also want to be a freelance artist, a boutique owner, open my own coffee shop, make greeting cards... basically I want to be self-employed someday and have so many passions and dreams that I don't know how I'll narrow it down.

6. I am so obsessed with France, namely Paris. Just got this book that I am very excited about:

7. I switch off between being ultra lazy and ultra productive.

8. I kind of have a thing for trashy reality TV. It can be so addictive...

9. I can be really reclusive. Just sometimes though.

10. I'm a hopeless romantic.

4th photo in my 4th folder of photos:

Okay, I cheated. It's the 4th photo in my 5th folder of photos, because the 4th photo in the 4th folder might be embarrassing for someone.

I am leaving for Miami in like 5 hours and I still have to get some shut-eye in before then, so I bid you goodnight. I will have to think about tagging someone later. For now, I tag any commenter who wishes to do this!

I will be back in like 6 days-ish. Hopefully with something like a tan. Have a great week everyone!

cold feet?

Apparently Monday was like the most depressing day of the year for people. Or so says some poll. But my birthday was yesterday, so I have a hard time being sad in January. I had a good day galavanting about with Joseph...shopping and steak and live jazz.
Here's my birthday outfit. A guy walking in the park said he supposed my feet were cold, and another guy just stared quizzically at my feet. What crazy things we do in the name of fashion...

Wearing an Anthropologie dress, Richard Chai for Target sweater, and Madden girl shoes.

currently craving

I wear leggings so much these days that I could definitely use these pants to spice things up a bit. Plus, with leggings I always feel that I need a butt-covering shirt, and with these babies I wouldn't! I really love the whole outfit. Maybe I will have the guts (and the abs) to wear a cropped shirt someday...

This jumpsuit seems incredibly slimming and versatile.

Retro-glam and kind of Jackie O. Coolest thing about it? It's a jumpsuit too. Kind of tricks you, doesn't it?

What is it with me and jumpsuits now? I also was eyeing this one from Treasure Chest Vintage. We'll see how expensive it gets...

Also want a watch, maybe this Betsey Johnson one in particular.

First two pictures from Urban Outfitters catalog, third picture from Anthropologie.

spring ahead

The other day I took a "shopping lunch" to pop over to Old Navy and peruse their 75% off racks for a long slim drapey tank. (Note: This task is near impossible seeing as how Old Navy clothes all seem to be extremely short and wide. I find it hard to believe that shape would be flattering on anyone.) So while I was there I was slightly shocked and amused to see swimsuits, flip-flops, and other such summer items on display. It seems a little unfair to tease us with the thought of summer when we have to go back outside to the below-freezing temperatures. But sooner or later, the warm weather will come, and so I'm going to join in the fun and show you some of my favorite Spring-09 runway looks to get excited about.

Below: A couple more looks from Carlos Miele that are a little less practical for those of us who don't have red carpet events to attend, but great to look at nonetheless.

Oh, and if you were wondering, I did find that 3 dollar tank while I was at Old Navy. Not as long and drapey as I would have liked, but still fairly acceptable. And 3 bucks. Come on.

monster scarf

Got this enormous circle scarf at H&M. It's wonderfully big and cozy, but you have to be careful that it doesn't start taking over your whole body. Also have a lint roller ready after you take it off. My black shirt looks like it's growing purple hair.

goof

Don't mind the silly pictures. I didn't do a "formal" shoot, and therefore decided to grab some pictures from hanging out at a friend's house.

Wearing an sheer t-shirt from Express, secondhand sailboat skirt, H&M legwarmers, UO tights, secondhand earrings.

As I mentioned in the last post, there are some fantastic deals to be had out there. Take for example Asos: Up to 75% off...
Just ordered these babies for like half off, and I await their arrival with the usual impatience.

ode to clara

Clara Bow: Silent film star in the 1920's, and the original "it" girl. Thank you for the inspiration.

Happy New Year everyone!
Hope your holidays were filled with fun. I had a blast with friends and family, and have been hitting up some great after-Christmas sales. There's some ridiculously low prices out there right now. Go get 'em!

Got an espresso machine for Christmas (from my baby), and have since been drinking cappuccinos about once an hour.
....That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but mmmhmm they are so delicious. I'm going to go make one now.
